The FIRST LEAGUE GAME Day was on October 25.
IF Necessary, you may contact your Volunteer Division leader by using the Convenors page.
IF Necessary, Parents/Players are responsible for contacting their Volunteer Coaches after the First Game.
YOU should obtain your Coach's contact information from them directly in order to contact them in the future.

RAPTOR TRIP 2009 ----- Great Christmas Gift!

Once again we will have a RAPTOR trip to the ACC to see Bosh + Bargnani + O'Neal on February 1, 2009.

Flyers and Forms will be distributed at House League games in November.

All Participants will be Contacted by Email or Phone with the Day's Schedule after the Deadline.

DEADLINE = Friday, December 12, 2008.

Sorry if you were not able to get tickets last year as we sold out our two busses.

CYO will have
Separate Boy and Girl Divisions for:

  • Minor Rookie (6&7)
  • Rookie (8&9)
  • Minor Bantam (10&11)
  • Bantam (12&13)
  • Midget (14-16)
  • If your mailed in entry is NOT postmarked by July 31st your registration MUST include the FULL FEE of $90.00 OR it will NOT be accepted and you will have to attend to at the Open Registration times.  Our Divisions have LIMITED spots

    NOTE: Your Copy of the Form is Your Official RECEIPT for Your INCOME TAX CREDIT

    Receipt forTax Credit

    Please use your copy of the registration form as a receipt.  

    Also, note that it is a Tax Credit which means that you only get 15.5% of your $90.00 payment as a refund.

    A paper copy will be required if you do NOT file by computer.

    PARENTS/GUARDIANS!

    EVERYONE SHOULD VOLUNTEER.   CYO is ALL Voluntary.

    We need Coaches, Referees, Scorers and Timers; High School Age and Up

    NO EXPERIENCE REQUIRED.

    We CANNOT operate without your help.    Please help us run CYO for you.

    OPEN REGISTRATION

    We will have our registration at St. Peter's School on Westwood. We did use our official Registration form (triplicate copies) and we required the signature of a parent. No postdated cheques would be accepted.

    We will set the League Schedule (times and locations) after Open Registration is completed.

    Further details can be found in the CYO Newsletter that will be sent to ALL Catholic Schools in the first week of September.

    Our Fees for Open Registration did NOT Increase for another year and are as follows:

    §    $90.00 per player

    §    $170.00 (2 Family Members)

    §    $240.00 (3 Family Members)

    §    $310.00 (4 Family Members)

    (Includes T-Shirt, Gym Rentals, Team Dinner and Team Pictures)

    SPECIAL  DAYS

    CYO must accomodate the needs of the High Schools in using the gyms. We must give up any days that they require. As such we often get informed about their need after we have sent out our schedule. Therefore we have to alter our schedule if the High Schools need the gyms.

    FIRST LEAGUE DAY

    We probably will begin our first day of play on the 4th Saturday in September at various times and locations.  A Coach or Convenor will attempt to contact you in regards to your time and location. After that date YOU must be RESPONSIBLE to contact them in regards to information. If YOU miss a day, YOU can not expect them to contact you.

    If you want to contact them you can do so by emailing them from the Convenors page. NOTE: We do NOT have Convenors for all Divisions. We NEED Volunteers for these divisions:

    NOTE: CYO does NOT allow Players to Play in a Division Above their Age Group.

    STUDENT REFEREES

    CYO will pay you $7-$10/game to train to be Official Basketball Referees.
    (Must be High School Age)

     YOU will be  responsible for getting your Time Sheet signed each week by the Convenor
    .

    Bursary Awards

    Bursary Awards are for Graduating Grade 12 students who have volunteered with CYO.

    Recent winners have been Jenna Black, Shannon Tersigni and Daniel Miksza

    You can Email CYO to obtain a Bursary application form.

    Annual General Meeting (AGM)

    Will be held at the Columbus Hall at 84 Lewis Road in Late Spring.

    FAIR PLAY

    Enjoy the sport and the competition. Cheer as much as you want.
    Verbal or physical abuse of fellow players, spectators, coaches or officials will not be tolerated!
    We are here to have fun and enjoy ourselves. Please don't take the fun out of sports for others.
    If you disregard our Policy, you will be asked to leave our FAIR PLAY facility.

    HEAD CONVENORS

    The girls' head convenor is Paul Keating 767-2223 and the boys is Marti Valeriote 836-6093.  If you have any questions or concerns, we ask you talk to the coach or division convenor first.  If you still need assistance or have a comment or question about the program, please call Paul or Marti.

    SCORERS TABLE

    Remember, we are all volunteers, including the scorers. This year no one can approach the scoring table at any time during the game. If there is a discrepancy, only during a stoppage in play, may the coach with a referee and/or convenor approach the scorers to resolve the discrepancy.  The convenor’s and referee’s decision is final.

    Jr NBA/WNBA

    CYO has been accepted for membership in this NBA/WNBA related program. As a result we will be participating in a number of activities this year and will be distributing related literature.

    TEAM DINNERS

    We usually have our end of season Team Dinners at   CARIBOU CREEK  for all divisions except Bantam which will use WENDY'S on WOODLAWN. Schedules will be distributed by Convenors and Coaches by the last regular day of play.

    FIRE ALARM POLICY

    CYO will now have a policy regarding improper use of Fire Alarms in the schools. Thetwo options are:

    1) If pulled on purpose the entire Fine of $150 charged by the Fire Department will be paid by the respective family.

    2) If pulled by accident then the $150 Fine will be split evenly between CYO and the respective family.

     LOURDES TROPHY CASE

            CYO has a Trophy Case at Our Lady of Lourdes High School located just outside the northern gym doors.
            We are presently looking for    suggestions as to which items could be displayed there.

    We had a GREAT turnout in ALL Age Groups!--Thanks to All Volunteers and Participants!

    BMO Hero of the Game---Paul Keating

    Paul Keating, co-president of Guelph CYO Basketball, has been named recipient of the Toronto Raptor BMO Hero of the Game award.

    Keating was invited to the December 9th Raptors game versus Houston and was to get recognized for his contributions.

    The award recognizes a volunteer who has made an outstanding contribution to minor basketball in their local community, said a news release.

    Paul Keating has been involved in the creation and development of CYO Basketball in Guelph since it started.

    Coaches Clinic---Bob Sharpe--St. Peter's, Sunday, December 2nd @ 2pm

    CYO hosted a Clinic for all current Coaches and Volunteers. It was run by Bob Sharpe who has been Mr. Basketball here in Guelph for decades.  Not only was he one of the founding members of CYO basketball, he was on the only National title Gryph's basketball championship team back in the early 70's and he won MVP for the tournament. He also went on to play on the Olympic team in the 1976 games in Montreal.
