C R I T E R I A F O R S U B M I S S I O N S
* Must be a collection of short stories published in English, either
originally or in translation. In the case of a translated work winning,
$7,500 will go to the author and $2,500 will be awarded to the translator.
* Must have been first published as a collection in English between
July 1, 2001 and June 30, 2002. Individual stories from collections may
have appeared prior to these dates in other publications (i.e. magazines,
anthologies) but never before together in a `collected edition' (i.e. reprints
or reissues of previously published books are not eligible).
* Self-published works, anthologies and children's books are not eligible.
* Must be written by an Ontario-based author (author must be a resident
of Ontario or have lived in Ontario for three of the past five years). In the
case of translation, the original work must be authored by an Ontario-based author.
* All eligible books must be published in Canada, be available for sale in
Canadian bookstores and carry an ISBN number.
* The decision of the judges as to whether a book is eligible shall be binding.
* Each submission must be accompanied by five copies of the book, a press
release, author biography and photograph.
* No more than two entries per publisher will be accepted.
* Books submitted will not be returned.
* Short-listed authors will be invited to participate in promotional activities
to support the program, i.e. readings, media interviews, etc.
* Submissions must be received no later than June 30, 2002.
* Submissions will be distributed to the judges for consideration on an
ongoing basis up until the June 30 deadline.

Porcupine's Quill publisher Tim Inkster has recently
