Services Provided by the KWFN

Monthly Meetings Monthly meetings are held at Wing 404/Rotary Centre, Dutton Drive, Waterloo. Each meeting consists of information on the environment in this community, sightings, and a featured topic. These meetings take place at 7:30 p.m., the 4th Monday of: September, October, November, January, February, March, April, and May.


Outings Various trips are organized throughout the whole year by the KWFN and published in "The Heron.


Christmas Bird Counts The Kitchener CBC is held on the last Saturday before Christmas and the Cambridge CBC the day after.


Young Naturalists
The Young Naturalists is a club sponsored by the Kitchener-Waterloo Field Naturalists to promote the enjoyment of nature in kids.  The Young Naturalists Club is open to kids 7-12 years of age.  Registration is necessary.  Cost for the annual session is $20.00 per child and $15.00 per additional child in the same family.  We meet on the last Saturday of each month at 10:00 am at Laurel Creek Nature Centre in Waterloo.  Each program lasts 2 hours.  We have outdoor activities planned for each program, so remember to dress appropriately.

Erb Street Landfill Project

 Club members are invited to assist with the Erb Street Landfill Project.  No experience necessary to help maintain the wetland, woodland and prairie areas.  Contact Jeff Thompson 748-2298.


The Heron

The KWFN publishes "The Heron" monthly from September to May except for December.  Monthly meetings, committee reports, outings, news from the bird study group, outing highlights, articles from members, sightings, etc. are to be found in most issues.
Contributions for publication in the heron are most welcome and should be addressed to the editor:
Deb Fowler  Tel. 576-2788.  Articles should be completed on a word processor and saved on computer disk in IBM format.  (Please speak to the editor if this is a problem.)  Deadline for submission is the 15th of the month preceding publication month.  Small changes or additions may be made up to the meeting date (4th Monday) of the month preceding publication.  Articles in the Heron reflect the views of the authors and are not necessarily the views endorsed by the KWFN.

The KWFN is a non-profit organization and fees help to defray publishing and mailing costs for "The Heron", rent for the meeting place, property tax, insurance, etc.  Many members participate in the spring Baillie Birdathon which raises additional revenues for the KWFN.  More KWFN Information.
