Be Prepared To Talk When Applying >>

You will be required to speak to a recruiter about your decision to join. Be prepared to talk about the reasons for joining, as well as the reasons for joining a specific unit. The recruiters are trying to ensure that you are making a well-thought through decision and to identify if you will be satisfied in a particular unit or trade.

What will the CFRC Recruiter ask?

You will be asked about leadership qualities, work experience, criminal convictions and involvement with police, drug use, and other lifestyle questions.

Trust me, the army knows that people make some bad decisions in thier life. This does not exclude you from service. However, it really depends on what and when these bad decision happened. If you are concerned, please call the recruiting team at 905.541.ARMY and we'll give you a hand and will prep you for the interview.

What is the Military?

The military is the Profession of Arms, which is comprised of members dedicated to the defence of Canada and the nation's interests, as directed by the Government of Canada.

The Profession of Arms is distinguished by the concept of service before self, and the lawful application of military force, as well as the concept of unlimited liability. That is, the Canadian Forces is a force of good and for good, one which strives to maintain a high degree of professionalism that reflects the morals and values of Canadian society.

As Canadian Forces members, we understand and accept the fact that we may be ordered into harm's way, and into conditions that may lead to a loss of life.

Why join?

Serving in the Canadian Forces is a big step in one's life and career. Therefore, you need to take the time and consider the reasons for joining as well as the impact that decision may have on you and your family.

There are many good reason to join, including:

  • Answering the call to service
  • Educational and monetary benefits
  • Family tradition
  • Personal satisfaction and pride
  • Opportunity to learn new skills
  • Full-time employment
  • Job security and health benefits
  • Personal and professional improvement

There are also many poor reasons to join the military. Be prepared to discuss your reasons for joining with a CFRC recruiter. You will also be expected to explain why you want to join a certain unit.

Application Problems!

The best way to avoid having a problem with your application is to ensure that you are submitting a completed application with all the supporting documents. Make sure you have originals of all documents, and hand them all in at the same!

School of hard-knocks hint >>

It's a fact; shit gets lost. The best way to avoid any problems with the application process is to ensure that you hand in your application and ALL supporting documents at the same time. And, keep copies for your own files at home.

Also, keep in touch with the recruiter at the Canadian Forces Recruiting Centre. Make sure you know his/her name, as well as her/his telephone number. Call frequently to check up on your file. The squeeky wheel gets the oil!

Argyll Unit Recruiter and CFRC Recruiter >> The Difference

There are two different recruiters involved in the application process.

The Argyll Recruiter works for the unit, and she/he is given the task of attracting new recruits to the unit (in this case, the Argylls). In other words, the job of the unit recruiter is to give you the basic information on the unit and an application package, and to convince you that you want to be an Argyll.

The CFRC Recruiter processes your file. After handing-in your file to CFRC, you will complete all the necessary tests/exams at the CFRC until you are given an employment offer.

The Hamilton CFRC is located at 55 Bay Street North.

Stuck? Can't Get A Straight Answer?

Most people have trouble. Files get lost, there may be poor communication, the list goes on.

Feel free to call the Argyll unit recruiter if you are having a problem with the application process. His/her jobis to help guide you through the application process.
