Spam Filtering - Sentex Support

Macintosh OS X e-mail clients

Filtering SPAM in Microsoft Office X Entourage

The Entourage e-mail client can be configured to read incoming e-mail headers and filter messages to different folders based on these headers. E-mails that pass through Sentex, and are considered to be SPAM, are marked as having SPAM content in the hidden header area of the message.

To have the Entourage E-mail client transfer the suspected SPAM e-mails to a “suspected_spam” folder, follow these steps:

  1. Start Entourage.

  2. At the left-hand side the the Entourage window, select the area of mail folders where you want to place a new mail folder.

  3. Select New, and then Folder from the File menu.

  4. Edit the folder name by typing (without the quotes) “suspected_spam”.

  5. Select Rules from the Tools menu.

  6. Select the Mail (POP) or the Mail (IMAP) tab, if you are a POP or IMAP user, repectively.

  7. Click on the New button.

  8. In the Rule Name field, type (without the quotes) “SPAM Filter”.

  9. In the If section, select if all criteria are met from the Execute pull-down menu.

  10. In the If section, select Specific Header from the first pull-down menu.

  11. In the field next to Specific Header, type (without the quotes) “X-Spam-Status:”.

  12. From the pull-down menu next to X-Spam-Status, select Contains.

  13. In the filed next to Contains, type (without the quotes) “Yes” and click Add.

  14. In the Then section, select Move message and select the folder suspected_spam.

  15. The resulting action should be: Move message suspected_spam.

  16. Click OK.

To view the hidden e-mail headers do the following:
After you select or open a message, select View Source from the View menu.
