Filtering SPAM in Eudora 5.2

The Eudora e-mail client can be configured to read incoming e-mail headers and filter messages to different folders based on these headers. E-mails that pass through Sentex, and are considered to be SPAM, are marked as having SPAM content in the hidden header area of the message.

To have Eudora transfer the suspected SPAM e-mails to a “suspected_spam” folder, follow these steps:

  1. Start Eudora 5.2.

  2. Select Filters from the WINDOW (may be FILE menu) menu.

  3. Click on the New button.

  4. In the Match section, only check the Incoming option.

  5. In the Header field of the Match section, type (without the quotes) “X-Spam-Status”, then click Enter.

  6. Select Contains from the following menu.

  7. Next to the Contains option, type (without the quotes) “Yes”

  8. In the Action section, select the option Transfer to.

  9. Select a mailbox from the main Eudora Transfer menu by clicking New...

  10. Type (without the quotes) “suspected_spam”.

  11. Click on the button OK.

  12. Click File, then Close.

  13. Click Save to save the filter definition.

To view the hidden e-mail headers do the following:
After you have opened a message, click on the “BLAH BLAH BLAH” button at the top left-hand side of the message window.
