Spam Filtering - Sentex Support

Filtering SPAM in Microsoft Outlook Express

 

The Outlook Express e-mail client can be configured to recognize incoming e-mails that have ***SPAM*** in the subject line. This marking is added by the Sentex SpamAssasin and suggests to Outlook Express that the content of the e-mail is is SPAM. 

To have Outlook Express transfer the suspected SPAM e-mails to the folder "suspected_spam", follow these instructions:

Procedure for configuration:

  1. Open Outlook Express and highlight the inbox (in the left folder tree) by clicking on it.

  2. Click on File then New and over to Folder. Click on Folder.

  3. Type in a name for the folder where all the SPAM is going to be sent  - Type (without quotes) "suspected_spam" and click OK.

  4. Click on Tools, then scroll down to Message Rules and over to Mail. Click on Mail

  5. (if you have previously created message rules you will see the Message Rules box - cilck on New)

  6. Place a check mark beside, Where the Subject line contains specific words

  7. Place a check in the box beside, Move it to the specified folder.

  8. Click on the link at the bottom of the screen - where the subject line contains specific words.

  9. Type in (in UPPERCASE without quotes) "***SPAM***" and click ADD then OK.
    (To create the * on each side of the word SPAM hold your Shift key down on your keyboard and press the number 8 key.)

  10. Now click on the second link at the bottom that says, move it to the specified folder.

  11. Select the suspected_spam folder, and click on OK twice.

  12. Click OK, then click finished

  13. All your incoming mail with ***SPAM*** in the subject line will now be sent to your suspected_spam folder.

To view the hidden e-mail headers do the following:

Open the message in it's own window (or when viewing the message in the preview pane).
Press CTRL-F3 on the keyboard or with the mouse,  Click the "File" menu then "Properties" then "Details" tab then "Message Source"
