Prior to attempting to create your Residential web site, please contact and ask them to setup
your personal Residential web space.

NOTE: If you have your own domain name (ex. mydomain.com) you will need a corporate website hosting package.

There are several programs that will allow you to create a web site on your computer.
Create your web site on your computer and then, follow these instructions below to help you upload it to our web server.
Click here for a list: Website Creation Tools.

To upload (copy) your web page to your Sentex account, you will need to use a method called FTP or File Transfer Protocol.
For basic features we can use the Internet Explorer web browser, which is installed on every Windows Operating System.
You will need a dedicated FTP program if you would like some more advanced features, there are many to choose from.

Here are some alternative FTP programs used for uploading your website:

Uploading using Internet Explorer

Follow these instructions to upload your web site
1) Open your Internet Explorer Web Browser

2) In the address bar type ftp://username@sentex.ca
For corporate customers you need to use your domain name ftp://username@domain.com

3) Enter your Password when prompted.

4) Now you should see your web space open in the window

5) To move your files simply drag from your computer folder over to the FTP web folder, and vice versa.
Make sure you put all your web pages in the public_html folder, if it is not there than create one.  Name your homepage index.htm

6) Once the files have been transferred close both the windows

You will then be able to view your site in a web browser by going to the following site http://www.sentex.ca/~your_username
(The little squiggle is called 'a tilde' and is located at the left-top side of your keyboard, substitute 'your_username' with your Sentex supplied user-name)

Troubleshooting Tips:

  • The home or main page should be called index.html. You can call it whatever you like, but the web address (or URL) will be shorter if you use index.html.
  • Page names should end with .html or .htm like page1.htm.

  • They should be text files with valid HTML code.

  • Graphic files should be transferred as binary files. To simplify things, put graphics in the same directory as the page.

  • The symbol between the slash and user ID (in the URL) is called a tilde '~'. It is usually near the top left of your keyboard.
  • On some laptops it is to the right of the spacebar.

  • Avoid spaces, symbols and uppercase letters in filenames. They may work but your site will work better for more people if you avoid them.
