The map at left is part of an English map of Acadia (called Nova Scotia by the British)
an Nouvelle France (later Lower Canada), from about 1754, showing the Chinecto Isthmus
and surrounding areas. This map dates from after the burning and abandonment of the
Beaubassin villages but before the fall of Fort Beausejour and the beginning of the
expulsion of the Acadians in 1755. The Mesagoueche (Missiquash) Point settlement
of Beaubassin, where Pierre Arsenault and his descendants
established their farm, was located where the British Fort Lawrence is shown on this map.
At the time of this map, Joseph Arsenault was living near the
village labelled Tantamar (Tintamarre to the French). For a larger version of the map,
