Family History Details

These Arsenaults were farmers, although a Quebec directory (reference?) also listed Philippe as a fisherman. At the time of the 1881 census, Philippe and Suzanne were living with the family of their son Ozias Arsenault (also farmers).

Denis Savard [2] lists Marie and Marine-Susanne as separate children but based on Marine's death notice as recorded by Savard (buried December 28, 1898 at Bonaventure, 70 years of age) and the close spacing of the children around 1828, I suspect that Marie and Marine-Susanne were the same woman.

Philippe Arsenault was the last of this line of the family who could be considered "pure" Acadian: all four of his grandparents, all eight of his great-grandparents, all sixteen of his great-great grandparents and many of his great-great-great grandparents were residents of old Acadia. Suzanne Caillouette's father was not of Acadian descent, although her mother was.
