Family History Details

Joseph emigrated from Ireland to Canada about 1846 [10] or 1851 [9]. At the time of the 1851 census, he was working as a labourer in Whitby, Ontario [14].

Joseph & family were farmers in Reach Township, Ontario. In 1877 they owned and farmed 233-and-1/3 acres of land south of Greenbank and west of Port Perry, Ontario, on what is now Ontario Highway 7 [7]. The 1861 census indicates they lived in a one-story framed house. Joseph's widowed father Michael already lived with Joseph's family by that time.

Mary died a sudden death in 1877, ruled as heart disease [13].

Rebecca never married and remained at her father's home until at least 1911 (when she was 52 years old) [10]. In the 1911 census she was mistakenly recorded as Joseph's wife [10].
