Family History Details
This family lived at Osmondthorpe, East Leeds, West Yorkshire at the time of the 1861 census and
were still there in 1881 (Osmondthorpe Fold in 1861 & 1871; Osmondthorpe Terrace in 1881).
In 1861, both Rhoda's parents James and Mary
and Rhoda's sister Margaret's family were living
a few houses away. By 1871, Rhoda's father James Beanland
had died and mother Mary Beanland was living with Margaret's family.
James Brown was a coal miner, as were his sons Benjamin and Alfred. Rhoda was a power
hand loom weaver (worsted) when they were firs married. Daughter Alice was employed
as a rag sorter in 1891 [2]
[10].
By the time of the 1891 census, James Brown had died and his widow Rhoda
and the younger children had relocated to Soothill Upper (High Street).
Son Alfred Brown and his wife and child were living nearby at at
Kirksgate, Soothill.
