Sarah was the widow of Robert Wood [7] .

In 1861 (census), this family lived at 47 Play Ground, Farnley, West Yorkshire. In 1871 (census), the family lived at 175 York Road, Leeds Northeast, West Yorkshire, but by 1881 (census), had moved down the road to 141 York. York Road is now the motorway A64.

In 1871, Joseph's occupation was listed as coal miner (deputy); in 1881, it was listed as coal & ironstone miner.
