Family History Details

In 1841 Hamlet I lived at the home of farmer John Rhead as a farm labourer. His mother was dead at this time and probably his father as well.

This family was at Halmerend Staffordshire for both the 1861 and 1871 censuses. In 1871 they lived at High Road, except Hester (age 14) who was living at another Halmerend household as a servant. Hamlet I was listed as a collier (coal miner) in both censuses.

In 1881, the family was at Ashton Road, Abram, Lancashire. Hamlet I and Hamlett II were both listed as a coal miners, Elizabeth a dress and mantle maker. They also had two Dix boys lodging with them, who were previously living with the Bagguley family in Staffordshire and may have been orphaned relatives.

On the marriage record, Hamlet was able to sign his marriage register but his wife could only make her X.

In 1891, Hamlet I and Sarah were living at 20 Fogg's Lane (now Miller's Lane but there is no longer a #20 ), Platt Bridge, Ince parish, Lancashire. Hamlet I was again listed as a farm labourer.

In some census records the family name is spelt "Baggueley".

At the time of the 1901 census, Hamlet and Sarah were living with there grandson Christopher B. Sutch and his wife Martha. Christopher was a coal miner born at Skelmersdale about 1877. Martha was born at Hindley about 1875.

At the time of their deaths, Hamlet and Sarah lived at 1 Betley Street (now Sydney Street), Platt Bridge, Lancs [22].

Hamlet I and Sarah are buried in one of three adjacent graves purchased by a William Pimblett [22]. There is no existing grave marker, just grass [7].
