ARIZONA
In December 1996 I took advantage of an opportunity to spend 10 days of my Christmas vacation in Mesa, Arizona with my parents, "the Snowbirds".
One day we took a drive along the Apache Trail which wound through the Superstitious Mountains.
These are some black and white scans of photographs that I took along the way ...
a view of the Salt River
an aging Saguaro cactus

the Lost Dutchman Mine
It was late afternoon when we finally reached the end of the Apache Trail. This is the spectacular sight that awaited us. To be truthful, it was much better in living colour. I have never seen anything quite like it.
This is actually the bridge spanning the man-made lake created by the Roosevelt Dam.
