===================================== King's Quest II: Romancing the Throne ===================================== Solution by David Tanguay (dat@thinkage.on.ca) ------- General ------- This solution is *not* a walkthrough. The solution to each major task is given in isolation. In a real game, you would combine actions and pick up treasures as you come across them. The coordinates used in this solution are shown in the map at the end. Points for each action are given in square brackets. You are only allowed to cross the bridge a fixed number of times; it then collapses underneath you. Don't cross the bridge until you must: to read the initial inscription, and to open another door with a key. --------------- Getting Started --------------- Cross the bridge at F2 [1] and go to the door at G3. Read the inscription. --------- First Key --------- Cross the bridge [1] and go to Grandma'a house at C1. Open the mailbox [1] and get the basket of goodies [2]. Go to B2 (or D2) and walk around until Red Riding Hood appears. Give her the basket [4] and receive a bouquet of flowers. Go to A3 and get the trident [3]. Go to A6 and swim out to the mermaid. Give her the flowers [2]. She summons a seahorse for you. Ride the seahorse [2] to Neptune. Give him the trident [4], and you receive a bottle, containing cloth, and you are shown a key. Get the key [5] and return to shore. Cross the bridge [1] and return to the door at G3. Unlock the door [7] and read the inscription. ---------- Second Key ---------- Cross the bridge [1] and go to Hagatha's cave at B2. Enter and go along the wall (avoiding Hagatha) to the cage. Get the cloth [2] from the bottle Neptune gave you and put it over the cage [2]. Get the cage [2] and carefully leave. Go to the antique shop at F6 and enter. Give the the cage to the lady and receive the lamp [6]. Outside, rub the lamp and a jinnee appears: you receive a magic carpet [2]. Rub the lamp again and receive a sword [2]. Rub the lamp again and receive a bridle [2]. Ride the carpet [4] to the mountain top. Go east to the pass, but stay away from the snake. Throw the bridle to the snake [5] and it turns into a winged horse. Talk to the horse and receive a sugar cube [2]. Go east to the cave and get the key [5]. Go west to the cliff edge and ride the carpet back down. Cross the bridge [1] and return to the door at G3. Unlock the door [7] and read the inscription. --------- Third Key --------- Cross the bridge [1] and go to tree door at D2. Open the door, go down the ladder, and into the dwarf's home. If the dwarf is there, leave and return until he's gone. Go to the fire and get the soup [2]. Go to Grandma's house at C2. Open the door: if the wolf is there, leave and try again. Give the soup to Grandma [2]. Look under the bed and receive the cloak [2] and ring [2]. Go to B5 and get the stake. Go to E3, look in the hole in the tree and get the mallet [2]. Go to the chapel at F1. Open the door, go to the altar, and pray [2]. Tell the monk your name is Graham and receive the cross [2]. Wear the cross [2]. <> Go to the moat at D4. Wear the cloak and ring [3]. Get in the boat, cross over, and get out. Eat the sugar cube [1] to protect you from the poisonous thorns along the path <>. Go along the path to the castle, open the door, and enter. Go left and on up the ramp. Open the drawer and get the candle [2]. On the way back down the ramp, light the candle at the torch [1]. Go east to the dining room, get the ham [2], and go east down the stairs. Go into the room on the left. If the coffin is open, leave the room and return, until the coffin is closed. Open the coffin and kill dracula [7] with the stake and mallet. Get the silver key [2]. Get the pillow, then get the gold key [5]. Return as you came. Cross the bridge [1], go to the door, and unlock it [7]. ---------------- The Strange Land ---------------- Go north, then get the net [1]. Throw the net into the water, repeating until you catch a fish [2]. Get the fish and put it back into the water [3]. Ride the fish [1] to the island. Go west from the beach and get the amulet [3]. Look at the amulet. Go south to the tower. Open the door and go up the stairs. Throw the ham to the lion [4] and he falls asleep. Open the door [5]. Talk to the girl and kiss her. Say "home" [3] to leave the strange land. --------- Treasures --------- At A5: Get the clam. Under it is a bracelet [7]. At C3: Look in the hollow log. Inside is a necklace [7]. At D5: In the dwarf's home there is a chest. Inside are earrings [7]. At D6: In the castle, after you have killed Dracula and have the silver key, go through the curtains in the dining room and up the tower. Unlock the chest [1] and inside is a tiara [7]. At F7: Look in the hole [1]. Inside is a brooch [7]. --- Map --- +--------+--------+--------+--------+--------+--------+--------+ | | | moat | moat | moat | Rock | | 7 | | | | | | Hole | | | | | | | | | | +--------+--------+--------+--------+--------+--------+--------+ | rocks | | moat | Castle | moat | Antique Shop | 6 | | | | | | | | | | | | |Entrance| | +--------+--------+--------+--------+--------+--------+--------+ | | | moat | path | moat | | chasm | 5 | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | +--------+--------+--------+--------+--------+--------+--------+ | | | moat | Moat | moat | chasm | Magic | 4 | | | |Crossing| | | Doors | | | | | | | | | +--------+--------+--------+--------+--------+--------+--------+ | | | Hollow | | Tree | chasm | | 3 | | | Log | | Hole | | | | | | | | | | | +--------+--------+--------+--------+--------+--------+--------+ | |Hagatha | | Tree | | Bridge | chasm | 2 | | Cave | | Door | | | | | | | | | | | | +--------+--------+--------+--------+--------+--------+--------+ | Start | |Grandma | | Monastery | | 1 | | | House | | | | | | | | | |Entrance| | +--------+--------+--------+--------+--------+--------+--------+ A B C D E F G
