====== Zork I ====== Solution by David Tanguay (dat@thinkage.on.ca) The Thief The first time you see the thief, toss him the jewelled egg. When you find him again later, kill him with the nasty knife. This is difficult, so save the game before the battle. Any treasures he may have stolen from you will be found in the treasure room. The Troll Kill the troll with the sword, i.e., the Elvin sword, and repeat that until he dies. Save the game before the battle, since he might win or severely injure you. The Jewelled Egg You must give the egg to the thief: he'll open it. When you recover the egg, take the canary back to the nest up the tree and wind it up. The Reservoir The reservoir is drained by 1) pressing the yellow button in the dam maintenance room, and 2) turning the bolt on the dam control panel with the wrench. It takes a few moves for the water to drain. Turning the bolt again with close the sluice gates, filling up the reservoir. The Maintenance Room If you press the blue button, a pipe will burst and the room will start flooding. You can stop the flooding by using the gunk in the tube on the pipe. The brown button will deactivate the dam control panel. The Loud Room To silence the noise, "echo" (not "say echo", etc.). The room is also quiet while the reservoir is filling up. The Mirror Rooms Rub the mirror and you will be transported to the other mirror room The Dome Room To get down, tie the rope to the railing. You can then go down, but not up. The Gold Coffin Pick up the coffin. When you pray in front of the altar, you are transported to the forest. Be sure to open the coffin: there's a sceptre inside. Entrance to Hades To enter Hades you need the brass bell, the candles, and the black book, all found below the dome room, as well as some matches, found in the dam lobby. First ring the bell. Then light a match, then the candles with the match. Then read the black book. The spirits are frightened away. The End of the Rainbow Wave the sceptre, found in the coffin, and you can walk on the rainbow. A pot of gold also appears. The Cyclops One way of dealing with the cyclops is to give him the lunch, from inside the brown bag in the kitchen, and then give him the water. He falls asleep, but can be re-awakened. The other way is to say "ulysses" or "odysseus". He is frightened away, and creates a nice short-cut to the living room. The Pile of Plastic Get the air pump from north of the reservoir and use it to inflate the pile of plastic, creating a boat. You can use the boat to cross the river. Don't carry anything sharp into the boat. The Buoy While floating down the river in the boat, pick up the buoy. Later, on land, open the buoy and find an emerald. The Shovel Go to the sandy cave northeast of the beach where you found the shovel. Dig the sand with the shovel, and repeat until you find a scarab. Save before digging, since the hole could collapse on you. The Grate To open the grate you need the skeleton key, found with the skeleton in the maze west of the troll room. The Bat To get by the bat, you must be carrying the clove of garlic, out of the bag you found in the kitchen. Beyond the Timber Room: The Machine Beyond the timber room, through a narrow crack, there is a machine. In the shaft room there is a basket on a chain. You must put the screwdriver (from the dam maintenance room), the torch (from the torch room, below the dome room), and the coal (from the dead end in the coal mine). Lower the basket. Return to the timber room, drop everything, and go through the crack. You will find the basket there. Remove the contents and go south to the machine room. Open the lid, put the coal in the machine, close the lid, and turn the switch with the screwdriver. Then open the lid and get the diamond. Put everything back into the basket, return to the shaft room, raise the basket, and get the diamond. The Coal Mine To get from the gas room to the ladder: e ne se sw d. To get from the ladder back to the gas room: u n e s n. The Maze To get from the troll room to the skeleton: w w w u. To get from the sketelon to the troll room: n n n e. To get from the skeleton to the cyclops' room: sw e s se. To get from the cyclops' room to the skeleton: nw s w d. To get from the skeleton to the grate: sw u d ne. To get from the grate to the skeleton: sw sw d. The Granite Walls From the temple, type "treasure" to get you to the thief's tresure room. From the treasure room, type "temple" to get to the temple.
