The Ontario Holstein Branch was founded in 1981 as the provincial link of the Holstein Association of Canada.
With the largest purebred Holstein genetic base in the nation, Ontario has always been the number one destination of the world's dairymen who are seeking new genetics to improve their herds.
Ten elected directors, fifty-two county councillors, and forty-two local Holstein clubs throughout the province work together to further breeder education and the promotion of identified cattle.
Mission Statement -
The Ontario Holstein Branch will promote and support the continuing improvement of the Holstein breed in Ontario for the benefit of the members and the dairy industry. The Branch shall develop and deliver services and programs that:
a) educate members to the benefits of identification, classification, milk recording, sire proving and other genetic programs consistent with a policy that will maintain the integrity of the breed;
b) promote Ontario genetics and cattle, both domestically and internationally;
c) develop and support youth programs to encourage future involvement in the dairy industry;
d) encourage and guide industry partners in conducting programs and activities of value, effectively and efficiently to the members of the Branch.
The Ontario Branch has contracted a number of pages in each bi-monthly issue of the Ontario Dairy Farmer Magazine to recognize top producing B.C.A. cows, longtime production awards, and new excellent and very good two year animals. Other pages in this magazine allow the Branch to communicate with the members and inform them of upcoming activities and a general reporting to the membership.
