2000 RULES AND REGULATIONS

  1. This is an Open Show.

  2. The entry fee is $20.00 plus GST per animal ($21.40), with no entry fee for group classes. Entries close Friday, 16 June 2000. Send entries and cheques payable to:

    All faxed entries must include a valid VISA card number. Only entries for which the entry fee has been received will be catalogued. Late entry fee of $50.00 plus GST ($53.50) will apply to all animals not catalogued. VISA ONLY.

  3. Registration papers and proof of Production Records (NO PHOTO COPIES) must accompany animals to the show for verification of entry. Entries not checked in with show management by 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 27, could be refused entry.

  4. Substitution is limited to a maximum of two (2) per exhibitor (not necessarily within the same class). A Late entries will be allowed at a fee of $50.00 plus GST ($53.50) per entry. All substitutions and late entries must be declared and fees paid to show management by 6:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 27.

  5. There is no restriction on the number of animals an exhibitor may enter.

  6. There are no production requirements to enter.
    However, there will be a production award based on total kilograms of protein for each milking class (senior 3 year olds through to mature cow). To qualify for this award, the animal must place in the top five (5) of her class and have a completed 305 day record.
    Production records must be available for verification prior to the show.

  7. Animals on display must be identified with owner-supplied stall cards, ie. name, birth date, sire, owner, etc.

  8. In case of any dispute, the Dairy Discovery Show Committee decisions will prevail.

  9. The Jersey Junior classes will commence at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 28 with the Jersey Milking classes at 12:30 p.m.
    The Holstein Junior show will commence at 10:00 a.m. on WThursday, June 29 with the Holstein Milking classes beginning at 12:30 p.m.
    There will be a lunch break if time permits.

  10. Bred & Owned Award will be presented to the animals whose breeder, as defined by the prefix, is the owner or co-owner of that animal

  11. Premier Breeder Banner will be presented to the individual, partnership or institution having the largest number of points won in the individual classes by not more than ten (10) animals, bred but not necessarily owned by the breeder. In the case of jointly bred animals, the prefix of the animal will be followed in awarding the points.
    Premier Exhibitor Banner will be presented to the individual, partnership or institution having the largest number of points that have been won in the individual classes by not more than ten (10) animals. This does not limit the number of animals that may be shown. In the case of jointly owned animals, the joint ownership will be considered as one exhibitor and no part of the points awarded will count toward the individual point total of any of the joint owners.
    Points will be awarded on the following basis:

    A Premier Sire Award will be calculated on the same basis as Premier Breeder and Exhibitor.
    However, at least one-half of the points for the Premier Sire Award must be earned by milking females.

  12. CODE OF ETHICS - Ethics are an individual responsibility, however, it should be understood that violators are subject to the disciplinary provisions of the Association.
    The following practices or procedures are considered unacceptable and are defined as being unethical in the show ring of registered dairy cattle:
    a) Misrepresenting the age of the animal for the class in which it is shown.
    b) Balancing the udder by any means other than by leaving naturally produced milk in any or all quarters.
    c) Treating or massaging any part of the animal's body, particularly the udder, internally or externally with an irritant, counter-irritant, or any other substance to temporarily improve conformation or produce unnatural animation.
    d) Minimizing the effects of crampiness or lameness by feeding or injecting drugs.
    e) Surgery of any kind performed to change the natural contour or appearance of the animal's body, hide or hair. Not included is the removal of warts, teats and horns, clipping and dressing of hair and trimming of hooves.
    f) Insertion of foreign materials/articles under the skin, into the topline or on the feet.
    g) Criticizing or interfering with the judge, show management or other exhibitors while in the show ring or other conduct detrimental to the breed or show.

  13. Animals in the ring will be identified with the use of a LEADSMAN SHOW HARNESS.
    EXHIBITORS ARE TO OBTAIN THESE SHOW HARNESSES PRIOR TO THE SHOW.

  14. Arrival times are between 10:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m. Monday, June 26 or 6:00 a.m. till 12:00 noon on Tuesday, June 27. Cattle will be released one (1) hour after completion of the Holstein Show on Tuesday, June 29.
    Exhibitors should contact Jim King by 20 June regarding stabling allotment.

    Cattle leaving early will forfeit any prize money earned.

  15. To be recognized as a 4-H Calf the calf must be the 2000 4-H project of the leadsperson.
    4-H MEMBER'S NAME IS TO BE INCLUDED ON THE ENTRY FORM.

  16. Exhibitors must provide their own bedding, feed, etc. Hay, straw, shavings will be available for purchase.

  17. Manure Removal - manure must be deposited in designated areas with no foreign material (bottles, cans, wire, twine, etc.). Manure and garbage are major expenses for any show.
    OBSERVED VIOLATORS CAN AND WILL HAVE PRIZE MONEY WITHHELD.

  18. Milk House - Cooler will be available for milk.
    Do not deposit milk from treated cows (disposal of tainted milk very costly!). When in doubt - don't.

  19. Each exhibitor shall hold the show management blameless for any loss or accident. It shall also be a condition of entry that each exhibitor shall be responsible for any injury or damage that may be occasioned to any person or thing whomsoever or whatsoever against all claims or demands for loss of damage occasioned thereby.
    Every exhibitor must carry liability insurance. In most cases, exhibitors are covered with the farm liability insurance for up to five shows. Please check with your insurance company.

  20. Separate stabling for C.H.A.H. and Leucosis Free Status herds will be available.

  21. Exhibitors are reminded to check on regular health care, ie. inoculation against communicable diseases.
