The Avon theatre is situated on Downie St. one block to the south of City Hall. It has been extensively refurbished, inside and out this year. Also, behind this theatre stands a new facility, The Studio Theatre.
It was originally opened in 1901 as Theatre Albert, then was converted to a movie theatre, The Majestic, and finally taken over in 1967 by the Festival as the Avon.
