This page is dedicated to four men who were instrumental in the formation of the city's parks:
- Dr E.H. Eidt: a local dentist who had "a vision of what nature, aided by man's handiwork, could do for his city". A Beacon Herald quote.

R. Thomas Orr: a local architect, champion of the parks system, and originator of the band shell on the south shore of the Avon river.
- George McLagan: a furniture manufacturer, who donated both land and money.
- T.J. Dolan: a reporter who became a managing editor of The Beacon Herald newspaper. He spent thirty five years on the board.
