Flatter the mountain-tops with sovereign eye,
Kissing with golden face the meadows green,
Gilding pale streams with heavenly alchemy.

This page is dedicated to four men who were instrumental in the formation of the city's parks:

Dr E.H. Eidt: a local dentist who had "a vision of what nature, aided by man's handiwork, could do for his city". A Beacon Herald quote.
R. Thomas Orr: a local architect, champion of the parks system, and originator of the band shell on the south shore of the Avon river.

George McLagan: a furniture manufacturer, who donated both land and money.

T.J. Dolan: a reporter who became a managing editor of The Beacon Herald newspaper. He spent thirty five years on the board.
