"What is love? 'Tis not hereafter;
Present mirth hath present laughter;
What's to come is still unsure:
In delay there lies no plenty;
Then come kiss me, sweet and twenty,
Youth's a stuff will not endure."
Twelfth Night.
This Theatre is named after the founder of The Stratford Shakespearean Festival: Tom Patterson appeared before the local Chamber of Commerce in 1952 to request $100 to go to New York. He wanted to discuss his concept with Alec Guinness.
One alderman offered to increase this to $120. Eventually Tom left Stratford, for New York with $125!!!
However, it was eventually Tyrone Guthrie that took the directorship.
This theatre has developed a special persona, offering inventive productions with special flare.
