Masters Swimming OntarioParticipation StatisticsIn a dark little corner of a house by the lake in a metropolis known far and wide sits an old computer overflowing with MSO Statistics. Some of these figures have been used to assist the Board of Directors in making decisions and certainly they have been used to provide information to the swimmers of this province and they were the basis for Burlington's "World's First Personal Best Masters Swim Meet" (also, poor Yoric, I knew it well), but mostly they are just irrelevant and useless and take up disc space. These statistics cover the period from September 1984 to August 1987 and from September 1989 to December 1998. In the olden days, our swimming season stretched from September to August, but with the worldwide change to a calendar based reporting season, these figures have been restated. This means that 1984 (fall only), 1987 (spring/summer only) and 1989 (fall only) are incomplete on a calendar year basis. Please note that all statistics are based on results, not entries. Meet Participation : Separated by year, these files list all of the meets processed that year, showing the number of swimmers and the number of swims at each meet. Summary totals are provided for each course (LCM, SCM and SCY). 1984, 1985, 1986, 1987, 1989, 1990, 1991, 1992, 1993, 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998 Top Ten Recap : Here are some tables to give some idea of how many competitive swimmers there are in the province and how many of them swam their way to fame and fortune in the MSO Top Ten and how many swims their efforts represented, along with some averages. Swimmer Recap : Here is a simple table that shows how often we compete. Swimmer Detail : This is an alphabetized list of all swimmers in the original MSO database (separated into 8 files for easier viewing) showing the number of times each swimmer swam each event. Aasen - Carney, Caron - Epps, Erger - Heyding (Grace), Heyding (Joan) - Lister, Lithgow - Murray (Roger), Murray (Sandra) - Russell, Russo - Turner (Dave), Turner (Ian) - Zver Swimmer Ranked : And then the swimmers are ranked based on the number of swims during the indicated time period. But, to keep the file size reasonable, only those swimmers having swum 50 or more races are listed. Event Participation : Ever wonder if the swimmers who swim the 50 free the most often are the fastest? Ever wonder if advanced age causes swimmers to swim the 200 fly more often than the shiny happy people? Ever wonder if the swimmers who swim the 400 IM the most often at one point or another have swum for the North York Gators? Me neither! 50 Free 100 Free 200 Free 400 Free 800 Free 1500 Free 50 Back 100 Back 200 Back 50 Breast 100 Breast 200 Breast 50 Fly 100 Fly 200 Fly 100 IM 200 IM 400 IM
