PORT DE MAÓ, MENORCA.
7th June, 2000.
Hello again: Just a card for your collection and to let you know we arrived safely in Majorca, Menorca or Mallorca!
We left Weymouth (Dorset, U.K.) at 6:30 a.m. to catch the 10:00 a.m. flight. Racing down the run-way 100+ m.p.h. .. suddenly - up went the airbrakes, on went the wheel-brakes, engines reverse etc. abort take-off!
However, we eventually got here safe and sound if a little late. We've left the cold of England behind for bright sun and 27ºC.
We have a smashing room overlooking the harbour, where everything from little "Mirror Dinghys" to cruise liners pass by all the time. Fabulous yachts etc. here and a few like the one I had.
We have a Fiat Bravo hire car and I'm learning to drive on the right again. It's a bit hairy here .. the roads are rough, narrow and the natives crazy, but we'll manage.
We've chosen well. The night-life is quiet - like the picture.
Really hope to see you soon. Oh, by the way, you can catch a British Airways from Pearson, Canada, to Heathrow and just book on at the airport. Also, we have found that you can get a 'bus from Heathrow in the Airport, down to Poole in Dorset. The busses run every 1½ hours. Then you don't have to go on the underground.
