A Postcard From Normandy

1st November 2001

We are in Normandy for a week enjoying the countryside with all the autumn colours. Yesterday was Hallowe'en and all the little children in the village were in fancy dress - very sweet.

.....and here is the interesting letter which followed ....

we had a lovely week in France, nice sunny weather,it couldn’t have been better. We rented a house in a little village and a French friend who we hadn’t seen for some time came to stay with us, it was really relaxing.
During the daytime we went for long walks with Judy in the forests or on the beaches, and shopped in the markets. Then in the evenings we came back to the house and lit a log fire and cooked a meal. The people who own the house and live next door have got pets, including a large ginger cat. When we arrived Judy jumped out of the car and in the dark I think she thought that the ginger cat was a little dog. She ran over to it hoping for a game but the cat stood its ground and arched its back – poor Judy it was just like Tom and Jerry, she skidded to a halt then turned around and raced to the car and jumped back in! The cat meanwhile just looked disgusted and walked away.
When we were in France we met a lady with a Newfoundland dog, it looked so cute I had to take a photo which I will attach. It was all black with white paws, it looked as if his feet had been dipped in white paint. He was seven years old and called Victor.
