The Christmas Song
(sung to the tune of Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire)

Kestrel hunting from an open wire
Marsh Hawk swooping to and fro
Great Horned Owl hooting by a campfire
Cooper's Hawk a sparrow in its toes
Every Barred Owl dozes waiting for the moon to glow
Bald Eagle makes the ducks take flight
Red-tailed Hawk being mobbed by some crows
Gyrfalcon hunting quite a sight
a Barn Owl waiting on its prey
a Merlin racing toward a Flicker for to slay
a diving Peregrine from way up high
an Osprey catching fish it spots from the sky
and so I'm offering this simple praise
for falcons, kites and eagles too
thoughts of hawks in my head
I could watch them for days
Merry Christmas to you
