Trudy
MacMillanwas
born in Western Canada, where as a youngster she was always drawing.
With a keen
interest in painting she received tutoring in oil painting from one of
Western Canada’s wildlife artists’. She
later received an award for her work from the Canadian Forestry
Association of B.C.. After moving to
Ontario she continued painting, and took many evening oil painting
classes. Deciding to further her
education she attended Sheridan College and received a certification in
Fine Arts. Focusing on flowers she
attended classes at the Royal Botanical Gardens where she began
specializing in botanical watercolour
painting. In 1995, Pappus - a quarterly publication from The Royal
Botanical Gardens, featured one of her
pieces titled ‘Spring Poppies’ for the cover. Discovering the
versatility of the new water-base medium she
now paints only in watercolour and acrylic. Her work has been displayed
in several galleries as well as
numerous shows. In 1997, she won ‘The People’s Choice Award’ for her
painting titled ‘The Spirits of
Haida Gawii’. Many pieces hang in private collections across Canada,
United States, Europe and Japan. She
teaches with the Continuing Education system as well as private
workshops. Residing in a rural setting
offers her inspiration for many of her botanical and landscape
paintings.
