For 30 years, Waterloo Regional Block Parents have served the people of Cambridge, Kitchener, Waterloo and the surrounding rural communities by creating a network of safe houses for people of all ages to go to in times of distress. We have established over 230 Block Parent homes in our region! With the support of the Waterloo Regional School Boards we have established 23 Block Parent School representatives in 132 schools. Our trained representatives educate children on topics regarding street proofing, physical and sexual abuse, domestic violence, drug awareness as well as how to use the Block Parent Program. As a result, we have over 10,000 children have gone through our presentations since January 2002 and we continue to expand on the number of schools we serve. Waterloo Regional Block Parents work closely with a number of organizations including other crime prevention groups, child advocacy groups and the Waterloo Regional Police. We keep our school representatives up to date on current topics by way of regular meetings, guest speakers and emailed newsletters. Throughout the year, Waterloo Regional Block Parents host a number of events such as Kid Safe Day, Holly's Hope and The Block Parent Halloween Carnival to help raise awareness of the issues regarding child safety in our community. We also attend a number of child related events and we are available to teach any interested group about our programs. We give demos to Community Associations, retirement homes and various social groups throughout the region. The Waterloo Regional Block Parent Program is incorporated as a non-profit, charitable organization. It is funded in part by a Regional Grant, local schools, businesses and corporations, and private donations.
